Coffee as we know it is not the same nowadays. The old and familiar beverage with milk, water and lots of sugar is still in existence, but not half as popular as the new and exotic variations of the coffee beverage that are taking the world by storm.
A cup of a regular variety of coffee is made from powdered cocoa beans. To which there is added milk, hot water, and a chosen amount of sugar, although some people like it without the sugar. However you prefer it, this type of coffee, a favorite for cold mornings or the sleep deprived days, is fast being replaced by a flurry of brand new types of beverages and infusions, which have their base in coffee.
The first such beverage that comes to mind is the iced coffee. It is merely a cold and iced version of the usual hot coffee. Then there is the Affogato, which is a drink or a dessert which has its base in coffee that is topped off with espresso. Another drink that is becoming quite popular is the Flat White. This unusual name is given to the drink all because of the texture of the milk used, which is creamy and non-frothy. The Greek Frappe Coffee is very popular in Greece. This drink is coffee based, foam covered and made from spray dried instant coffee. The Indian Filter Coffee is basically from the south of India. It is made from the dark and roasted coffee beans and chicory, and turns out sweet and milky in its constitution.
Coffee combined with Irish Cream Whiskey is known as Irish coffee and it is quite popular in cafes. Liqueur Coffees, as the name implies, is coffee made with the infusion of various shots of liqueur, like brandy, to make Brandy Coffee, gin to make English Coffee, rum to make Calypso Coffee, and so on. Needless to say, these liqueur coffees are quite popular with the café and coffee shop haunting crowd. An espresso with foamed milk, with cocoa beans sprinkled over the top comprises of Macchiato, which literally means ‘stained’.
A Mochasippi is a coffee based drink, or beverage, that is made by the baristas in the Community Coffee houses in the southern part of the United States of America, and contains actual doses of espresso, not merely powdered instant coffee. A Vienna Coffee is made by infusing shots of espresso with black coffee and then sprinkling the top layer of the drink with chocolate dust. The foam created on the top of the cup is eaten with a spoon, while the coffee based drink underneath is drunk through a straw. Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Austria have a popular type of coffee based beverage called the Café Melange. It is basically black coffee that is mixed with whipped cream.
These are drinks that cannot be prepared at home. They are only available in the commercial area of coffee making, which is a café or a coffee shop.
