What would an office be without a great office coffee machine? Coffee is the drink for getting business done. It wakes us up in the morning and gives us the extra energy we need to get through the afternoon. Work get done with coffee. Deals get done with coffee. Coffee is overlooked in many offices, but bad or no coffee makes for a bad work environment.

Maybe coffee is for closers, but coffee is for every step of the process, as well. Ideas get hatched over coffee, alliances and friendships are formed over coffee. Plans are brainstorming are fueled by coffee. Problems are hashed out over coffee. Good deals are celebrated over coffee.

These days, the coffee must be good. Hot is not good enough. With a Starbucks on every corner, people have come to expect good coffee. Good coffee requires a good office coffee machine. If you don't have good coffee, you competitor may.

The choices available have increased significantly in the last few years. With the advent recently of thermal servers and airpots that can keep the coffee hot a long time, many offices are trending toward purchasing airpot brewer, thermal carafe brewers and thermal server brewers. These brewers can often be the same brewers that are found in high-end coffee shops. They come with computerized touch-pad controls that can tweet many aspects of the brewing process, such as temperature, volume, pre-infusion and water pressure controls.

On the other hand, many offices still like the old easy-to-operate, push-button brewers that have warmers for the coffee pots.

Some things to consider when purchasing an office coffee machine:

• Pourover or Automatic (hooks up to a waterline)

• Volume needed

• 110V or 220V - more power means more coffee

• Do you want to brew into a traditional coffee pot that sits on warmers, or an airpot, thermal carafe or thermal server

• Switch controls or touchpad controls
